Hah!  Looks like my phone is in this area now, and I think should be delivered some time tomorrow!

zgfg,

I'll follow your suggestions when it gets here...

When you said "Configure Settings / Wireless Update that you don't accept automatical OTA.", did you mean to set "Allow automatic download under Wi-Fi network" to off?

Or are you referring to some other setting?

FYI out-of box it looks like it is:

I just tried setting "Allow automatic download under Wi-Fi network" to off? and did "check for updates" and it says "Your device's software is currently up to date".

I just realized from the earlier posts above that others have had the same problem with not being offered an OTA update ...

And it seems that we don't know why that would be happening?

Is the malware gone from that 20161024 version?

Also, if it is malware free, then where do I get that firmware and how do I flash it to the Ulefone Metal?

Regarding your question, there's even a TAG (ROM) in the top of the metal forum, just click it... There's everything there you need to know.

Hi,

Ok, thanks - didn't see that button at the top.

So this is the thread for the ROM?

http://forum.ulefone.com/thread-389-1-2.html

What about how to actually flash it?  I know some of you have been around here for awhile, but I just got mine and not that familiar with Ulefone.  I got this for an upcoming trip in a few days, and I have a lot of stuff to prepare for that and the phone was not on my list of things to worry (too much) about.

Sorry, I know that is not your problem, but I may have to just not take it and use another phone for this trip.

Thanks.

Jim

Yes, that ROM (201610) is supposedly the malware-free ROM that works better, according most users.

If you check the post for the stock ROM (201607):
http://forum.ulefone.com/forum.p ... 100&fromuid=913

there's all the information and links to manually flash the phone, including this one:
http://ulefone.com/download/metal.html

Personally, I'm still using the stock ROM (201607), and i think i was able to control the malware using the tips and tricks along the posts in this forum, and by forcing some apps to stop. Big emphasis on the "i think", because the malware is still there.
Nevertheless, i'm planning to backup my phone and do that update of 201610, when i found some spare time...

Good luck.
